Mayor opens exhibition of artwork from west London care homes

The Mayor of Hillingdon, Councillor Allan Kauffman, marked the opening of an exhibition of art created in care homes across west London on Monday 30^th September.

The paintings are on display in the newly-refurbished care home, The Burroughs, in West Drayton and include work from residents at the home and at other Care UK care homes including:

Amberley Lodge       in Purley

Franklin House        in West Drayton

Laurel Dene              in Hampton

Whitby Dene             in Eastcote

Manager Josephine Thomas said: “Art is very popular in all Care UK homes and often artists come in to work with residents. Charlie Joy visits The Burroughs on a regular basis and he has helped to frame and mount the residents’ work.

“There are some very bright and colourful pieces in the exhibition and I know residents find it a very effective way to communicate their feelings and ideas, as well as capturing subjects that have caught their interest.”

Councillor Kauffmann, who was joined by his wife, Mayoress Lynne Kauffman, was the guest of honour at the opening of the exhibition, which was attended by more than 50 guests including the artists themselves, fellow residents, their friends and families and members of the local community.

Councillor Kauffmann was impressed by the striking works of art that residents had produced and which have transformed the reception area where they are displayed into a modern and bright space. The residents and care team at the Burroughs are so delighted with the exhibition that they plan to turn it into a permanent gallery with changing artists.
