Grace celebrates her special 107th birthday at Place Court, Haverhill

Grace Jolly was born in 1906 when Edward VII was on the throne and when the first batch of Kellogg’s Corn Flakes was produced. Recently she celebrated her very special 107th birthday as a resident at Place Court care home in Haverhill.

Grace has never married and has lived in care since she was a teenager. Even though she has mild learning disabilities, she still undertook a range of community and volunteer jobs.

Rebecca Abbink, manager at Place Court, says “Grace’s story is very different to others but she has had an extraordinary life and we are delighted to celebrate her 107th birthday with her here at Place Court. She had a lovely day, we all sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to her and enjoyed sharing cake and presents. She also received a card from the Queen.”

Grace is a much-loved character at the home, having moved to Place Court in Camps Road in Haverhill during March 2009. Place Court care home offers specialist support to older members of the community who have Alzheimer’s, other forms of dementia and learning disabilities like Grace.
