Free dementia advice for carers to be offered at Poole’s newest care home

People caring for a loved one with dementia are being invited to a free information day at Care UK’s new care home, The Potteries, which opens to residents on 14th October.

On Saturday 19th October, dementia expert James Wilson, who lectures at Southampton University and specialises in dementia will lead the event at the home in York Road, Broadstone.

The Potteries Manager Donna Milne said: “We hope the event will provide a better understanding of what dementia is, as well as giving some really useful information on how to help people with dementia live calm and fulfilled lives.

“Caring for someone with dementia can be very stressful for relatives and friends because they have no training and don’t know what to expect. We hope the day will show people that they are not alone, that there is help and a way forward.”

Anybody interested in attending will be welcome at the free session which will run from 11am to 2.30pm. A free lunch will be provided giving carers the opportunity to share experiences and talk with other carers and members of The Potteries care team.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to have a tour of the brand new home and its facilities which include a coffee shop, hairdressing salon and cinema.

Donna said “We will also be giving everyone a free copy of the Care UK book ‘As Easy as ABC’- a really simple guide to help families caring for a loved one living with dementia.

“If you can’t come along then please get in touch because we will be organising other events to help people understand and live with dementia and we have our own specialist nurses who might be able to help with your questions.”

To book your place at the Dementia Seminar please contact Farron Studt, Customer Relations Manager on 01202 642960 or email farron.studt@careuk.com.
