Care UK health centre nominated for prestigious award

A Portsmouth GP practice and walk-in centre has been recognised for its positive impact in the community by being named as a finalist in the Best of Health Awards 2013, organised by Portsmouth newspaper, The News.

Colleagues at Guildhall Walk Health Centre (which Care UK runs on behalf of Portsmouth Health – a consortium of local GPs, Ashley House Clinical Services and Care UK) were delighted to discover the centre was chosen from hundreds of nominations across Hampshire to make the judges’ final shortlist in the GP Practice of the Year category.

Both registered patients and people using the walk-in service nominated the Portsmouth city centre practice, which last year was named as a runner-up in the Care UK Health Care Awards for the quality of its services and work with a local care home. 

The team must wait until Friday 25^th October to find out if the health centre is chosen as one of the best on the south coast. A ceremony at Portsmouth Guildhall will see another 11 awards covering all areas of the health and social care sector presented to the individuals and organisations that the public and judges believe have gone the extra mile when caring for people.

Kim Dennis, service manager at Guildhall Walk Health Centre, said: “It’s wonderful that local people have nominated us as GP Practice of the Year and I’m very proud of the team for their commitment in ensuring patients receive the best possible care. Everybody is very excited at the prospect of winning this award, especially after coming so close last year.”

Guildhall Walk Health Centre provides GP and walk-in services 8am – 8pm seven days a week and is open to everyone. It offers vaccinations and immunisations, contraception services, sexual health screening, asthma and diabetes management, cardiovascular disease prevention and minor surgery.
