Residents at Care UK’s Cumberland care home in Mitcham are inviting the community into their home to raise money for Macmillan, the cancer charity, at a special event which includes a baking competition.
On Friday 27th September, between 11am and 4pm, members of the public are being invited to join residents for tea, coffee and some tasty treats from the homemade cake stall.
Laura Shepherd, the home’s activities coordinator, said: “Cancer is one of those terrible conditions that seems to touch every family at some time or in some way and we wanted to help raise funds for Macmillan.
“Our residents love baking so they will be making cakes for the stall as will our team. We have a very talented kitchen team so I can guarantee there will be tasty cakes on sale throughout the day.”
To help raise funds there will also be a guess the number of coffee beans in the jar contest - and a cake competition. Laura said: “The competition is open to anyone - they just need to bring along a cake in the morning. Our residents are very competitive and they are already planning what they will bake for the competition!”
The home, in Whitford Gardens, has strong links with the community and local schools, churches and charities have been invited to join them for the day.
