Summer fun comes to our care home

On Friday June 21, Care UK’s homes joined hundreds of others around the country in opening their doors for the first National Care Home Open Day, and at Mill Lodge we took the opportunity to join in the celebrations.

Visitors enjoyed a garden party and fete, featuring all kinds of activities enjoyed by residents.

Manager David Barrington said: “We know that keeping up interests and hobbies is vital to our residents’ wellbeing, so we try very hard to find something each person will enjoy. Popular group activities include bingo, games like giant ‘Connect Four’, karaoke, skittles and visits from professional entertainers. We also offer lots of one-to-one activities such as reminiscence sessions and jigsaws.

“Every now and again we get an interesting visitor - for instance when the donkey we sponsor at an animal rescue centre in Leeds comes to see us. We all have a great time when the centre's staff bring him in for a visit.”

As well as showing visitors around our home we also gave away copies of the brand new book As Easy As ABC: Care UK’s Top 100 Hints and Tips for Activity Based Care. If you would like to learn more about ABC and how it can improve older people’s independence and wellbeing you can download it from www.careuk.com.
