Summer fun comes to Cheshire care homes

On Friday June 21, Care UK’s homes joined hundreds of others around the country opening their doors for the first National Care Home Open Day, and in Cheshire we took the opportunity to join in the celebrations.

Visitors to Station House had the chance to take part in a nine-hole putting tournament during the afternoon, as well as enjoying music and displays of work throughout the day by residents. Manager Sarah Evans said: “Our visitors enjoyed the activities and the residents always enjoy having visitors, so it was a great day for all.”

At Pinetum nursing home guests were treated to a stunning display by the Vale Royal Falconry team, and took the chance to swoop down on some of the tasty barbecue food prepared by the home’s kitchen team.

Home Manager Tracy Simpson said: “We are always happy to welcome people into our home to see what we do.”

Pimms and cakes provided plenty of pleasure all round at Hollins Park care home in Macclesfield, when a garden party with musical accompaniment was the order of the day. Manager Tammy Simmons said: “We had a really enjoyable afternoon and we were delighted to be joined by Deputy Mayor, Councillor Wesley Fitzgerald and the Deputy Mayoress, Mrs Joan McCance of Cheshire East Council.”

As well as showing visitors around, we also gave away copies of the brand new book As Easy As ABC: Care UK’s Top 100 Hints and Tips for Activity Based Care. If you would like to learn more about ABC and how it can improve older people’s independence and wellbeing you can download it from www.careuk.com.
