Friday June 21 saw a nationwide celebration of all that is best in residential care as homes opened to the public for the first National Care Home Open Day.
In Croydon, four Care UK homes hosted events and gave away free copies of our new book that gives lots of ideas on how people can use Activity Based Care (ABC) with their relatives.
At Amberley Lodge, in Purley, residents and visitors were joined by children from St Nicholas School who sang in the gardens. There were also poetry readings, cultural costumes, a lucky dip and stalls for people to enjoy, as well as a chance to meet the team and find out more about the home.
At Heavers Court, in Croydon, the open day fun included a flying display by birds of prey and visitors were able to enjoy an old-fashion garden party.
At Addington Heights Resource Centre, in Milne Park West, visitors were able to view a display of the centre’s many activities and see how ABC works to create person-centred care. They also had a chance to look at art work created by service users and enjoy afternoon tea.
Finally, at the Cumberland care home, in Mitcham, visitors enjoyed a truly fun-packed day of entertainment which included music, baking, games and a performance by the team of the much-loved pantomime Cinderella.
If you would like to learn more about ABC and how it can improve older people’s independence and wellbeing you can download our new book from www.careuk.com.
