On Friday June 21, Care UK’s homes joined hundreds of others around the country opening their doors for the first National Care Home Open Day, and in Tyne and Wear we took the opportunity to join in the celebrations.
Luscious cream teas, produced by the kitchen team, delighted visitors to Ponteland Manor for the open afternoon. Manager Jeanette Leadbitter said: “We all love having visitors here and we were glad to show them what we do.”
Everything went a little bit country at Cheviot Court, South Shields, for a country and western event, with a horseshoe hoopla, the films of John Wayne and music from Lee Davis. Manager Louise Damms said: “We wanted to do something a bit different, and it went down really well. There was something for everyone to enjoy.”
And at Collingwood Court, in Chirton, visitors enjoyed a coffee afternoon where they could admire displays of residents’ activities. Manager Maggie Harrison said: “We were very happy to show visitors round our homes to see the range of activities our residents enjoy.”
As well as showing visitors around our homes we also gave away copies of the brand new book As Easy As ABC: Care UK’s Top 100 Hints and Tips for Activity Based Care. If you would like to learn more about ABC and how it can improve older people’s independence and wellbeing you can download it from www.careuk.com.
