On Friday June 21, Care UK’s homes joined hundreds of others around the country opening their doors for the first National Care Home Open Day, and in Enfield we took the opportunity to join in the celebrations.
At Honeysuckle House visitors enjoyed live music, tours of the home and plenty of tea and cakes.
Stalls featured the residents’ favourite activities including baking and arts and crafts and visitors could enjoy a pamper at the manicure stand.
Manager Manford Ncube said: “It was a lovely day and the residents loved having fun with their families and the visitors to their home.”
Activities were also at the centre of celebrations at Elizabeth Lodge and we were delighted to welcome David Bowes MP. Visitors joined in with residents as they tried their hand at badge-making, arts and crafts and flower arranging. A delicious high tea was also enjoyed by all.
Manager Esther Owuborkiri said: “Our activities co-ordinators are very creative at finding ways for people to have fun - this was a truly fun day that also showed off what genuinely person-centred care can achieve.”
As well as showing visitors around our homes we also gave away copies of the brand new booklet As Easy As ABC: Care UK’s Top 100 Hints and Tips for Activity Based Care. If you would like to learn more about ABC and how it can improve older people’s independence and wellbeing you can download it from www.careuk.com.
