Care UK’s Pinetum nursing home is playing host to two events that are designed to give support to carers in Chester and raise awareness of dementia on Wednesday 6th March.
At 11am, there will be the first meeting of the Caring Cup support group.
The group is run by relatives of residents who live in residential homes, both at Pinetum and elsewhere, and is supported by the Care UK team.
Home Manager Tracy Simpson explained: “We wanted to provide support and a friendly ear to those people who have relatives in a home or who are moving towards that time.
“It can be very hard for families; they know that their loved one needs more help and support than they can provide, but they have lots of emotions to work through.
“We hope that this group will provide both support and practical advice, all provided by people who have gone through the process themselves.”
In the afternoon, between 2pm and 4pm, the home will be taking part in a Time for a Cuppa event. The national campaign, designed to raise awareness of dementia and its effects, also raises funds for Dementia UK.
Tracy said: “It should be a great event, with lots of cakes, biscuits and other refreshments and there will be information available on dementia for anyone who is interested in learning more about the condition and about the campaign.”
Both events at the home in Liverpool Road are free and open to the public.
