Carers from across the capital will come together to be inducted as dignity champions on Friday 1st February as Care UK celebrates national Dignity Action Day.
Carers representing care at home, special sheltered and extra care services supporting 900 people in six London boroughs will attend the day of training and awareness raising at Care UK’s London Bridge office and they will pledge to promote dignity even further within their own services.
Created by the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE), dignity champions believe passionately that being treated with dignity is a basic human right, not an optional extra. They believe that care services must be compassionate and person-centred, as well as efficient, and are willing to try to do something to achieve this.
Nick Barker, a Care UK service manager and the event organiser, said: “We will look at ways of further promoting dignity throughout our services and we will share ideas and strategies that we have used individually to spread good practice and choice.
“Choice is fundamental to dignity in care and we work to ensure all of our residents and service users can determine how they receive their care and we continually monitor their satisfaction levels. After this induction event the group will meet on a monthly basis to ensure that strategies are not only being put into action but that they are contributing to an increase in dignity and wellbeing throughout our services.”
We are happy to arrange interviews with a range of experts, commentary on industry issues and site visits for filming, photography or sound recording. Please get in touch with your requirements and we will do our best to arrange a suitable response.
