Friends and relatives who care for older people in the Copthorne area are being invited to a regular drop-in and support session at Care UK’s Francis Court residential and nursing home in Borers Arms Road.
The launch of the Friends Cafe is on Thursday 17th January and the sessions will be held at the home on the third Thursday of each month.
The cafe is being launched to encourage those who care for others to take an opportunity to focus on themselves, something that is often neglected by carers.
The home’s Georgina Read is organising the sessions and said: “Caring for someone you love is emotionally very tiring because you have a special bond with the person but often no training or experience in giving care.
“We want to offer local people the chance to take a couple of hours out from their caring role to relax with a cup of coffee and be somewhere that everyone understands the emotional and practical issues.”
As well as a chance to relax there will be the opportunity to talk to members of the expert Care UK team about care issues and to talk to guest visitors from various support organisations across the South East.
Georgina added: “When you care for an older person, especially if they have dementia, you have a unique set of challenges. It is really helpful to talk to other people who have had the same type of experiences and share ideas and realise you are not alone.”
The sessions will take place from 11am-1pm, for more information and to book your place, contact Georgina Read on 01342 719008
