Local residents are invited by Care UK to view plans for the redevelopment of the Mills Meadow care home in Fore Street, Framlingham at a planning exhibition to be held in the town on Monday 10th December. The exhibition will take place in the Crown Hotel on Market Hill from 2pm – 7pm and refreshments will be available.
The new homes team from Care UK and its developer Castleoak will be on hand to answer questions about the plans, which will be on show for local residents to give their feedback before a planning application is made.
The new development will accommodate 60 residents in the care home and also provide a bespoke new wellbeing centre offering state-of-the art day care facilities. It it is planned to develop the home in two phases on the same site as Mills Meadow in Fore Street which means that existing residents won’t have to move to a new home during construction. Once the first phase is complete, residents will be able to move to the brand new building so that the second phase can get underway.
If planning permission is granted for the Mills Meadow redevelopment, the work is expected to begin in summer 2013 with both phases of the new home being completed by spring 2015.
Mills Meadow is one of 16 care homes and eight wellbeing centres which transferred from Suffolk County Council to Care UK. Care UK has committed to investing over £60 million in 10 brand new care homes and 10 new wellbeing centres in the county which will be built in a carefully phased programme of development over the next three and a half years.
There will be many attractive features in the planned new care homes offering residential and nursing care for residents, including those with dementia, to help them maintain their interests and activities whilst receiving specialist care. These features include a coffee shop for residents, their families and friends to relax in, a hairdressing and beauty salon and a cinema.
The bespoke wellbeing centres will provide specialist state-of-the art day care for people who still live in their own homes, including services for people living with dementia.
