Southampton-based doctor wins healthcare award

A city doctor has won a prestigious award for her continuing work in promoting quality improvement in patient care at the Southampton NHS Treatment Centre.

Dr Rachel Broadley, a Consultant Anaesthetist who works for leading healthcare provider Care UK, was among the innovators recognised at the national Health Care Awards for finding new ways to improve services and standards for Care UK patients.

She received her award for Quality Improvement from Mike Parish, Care UK’s chief executive, at an award ceremony in London. The award, one of eight presented, was given for Dr Broadley’s consistently positive approach to improving the management of major issues such as pain, the care of diabetic patients and other medical issues, including the after-effects of surgery or anaesthesia.

The judges were particularly impressed by her rigorous efforts to ensure the guidelines she has developed will be spread beyond her own workplace and into Care UK’s other NHS treatment centres and surgeries across the country.

Dr Broadley said: “I was delighted to receive this award, especially as I am just one of many professionals within Care UK who are continuously working to ensure all our patients receive the highest level of evidence-based care in a pleasant and caring environment.

“Whilst I am incredibly proud of the service we deliver to patients who require elective surgery at the Southampton NHS treatment Centre, we continue to strive for improvement both clinically and in terms of patient experience, and I look forward to what we can realise in the future.”

The Health Care Awards were open to Care UK’s team of more than 2,900 staff who provide expert care and services to patients at GP practices, diagnostics services, special treatment centres, out-of-hours services and even prisons across the country.

The Southampton NHS Treatment Centre specialises in ear, nose and throat, endoscopy, general surgery, gynaecology, ophthalmology, oral surgery, orthopaedics and pain management. Visit www.southamptontreatmentcentre.nhs.uk to find out more.
