Portsmouth health centre is runner-up in national healthcare awards

A Portsmouth medical team which provides general medical care for all local people and also specialised care for older residents in the city has been named as runners-up in a prestigious competition for offering great care to their patients.

The healthcare team at the NHS Guildhall Walk Healthcare Centre were among the employees recognised at the national Health Care Awards for continually raising standards for Care UK patients.

The competition, which judges say was the toughest they had seen, was open to Care UK’s 2,900 team members who provide expert care and services to patients at GP practices, diagnostics services, NHS treatment centres, out-of-hours services and prisons across the country.

Judges heard that the NHS Guildhall Walk Healthcare Centre offers an excellent standard of care, working closely with Harry Sotnick House, a local nursing home also run by Care UK. Joint working between the two locations has supported the home and also enabled the healthcare centre to offer other patients an excellent service.

Manager Kim Dennis said: “The team here was delighted to be recognised for the excellent care they deliver. We were also nominated for the ‘Best of Health Awards 2012’ run by Portsmouth News so we are doubly delighted to be praised twice in one year. I am extremely proud of my team, with each person making the patient journey the best experience possible.”
