Liverpool GP and walk-in surgeries win national award for healthcare

A surgery and GP-led walk-in centre that provides drop-in healthcare for commuters and residents in Liverpool has won a prestigious award for its efforts in enhancing patients’ healthcare experience.

Lynn Cordock and the team, who work for leading healthcare provider Care UK at the surgeries in Everton Road, were among the innovators recognised at the national Health Care Awards for finding new ways to improve services and standards for Care UK patients.

The award, one of eight presented, focuses on improving the whole experience for patients, their relatives or visitors, going above and beyond the healthcare services on offer.

The surgery team successfully campaigned for a new road crossing to help patients, young and old, reach them safely and they also extended the centre’s pharmacy hours so that patients seeing a doctor after work could get medication until 7pm, instead of having to go elsewhere or wait till the next day.

Lynn said: “We were all delighted to receive the award. I have a wonderfully dedicated team who want patients to have a positive experience of visiting us, whether as a drop-in one-off visitor or as a registered patient.

“I am proud that the team look at the broader picture of healthcare, like patient safety near the surgery and they have gone the extra mile in extending our pharmacy hours so that we can offer the very best care to people who work long hours and need that extra service.”

The team also took the runner’s-up spot in the Unsung Hero Award for the work of Dr Olukayode Adeeko. Lynn nominated Olukayode for the award for his work at the Mersey View and Charlestown surgeries and she told judges that his dedication, knowledge and skill are only matched by his commitment and his compassion for his patients.

He said: “I enjoy working for Care UK – an organisation with a clear mission: fulfilling lives and committed to delivering twenty-first century healthcare services across the country through its inspired leadership and dedicated workforce.

“I dedicate my nomination to the employees of Mersey View Surgery & Walk-in Service and Charlestown Medical Centre for their first-class services in Liverpool and Manchester respectively.”

The Health Care Awards were open to Care UK’s team of more than 2,900 staff who provide expert care and services to patients at GP practices, diagnostics services, special treatment centres, out-of-hours services and prisons across the country.

The Mersey View Surgery and GP-led walk-in centre offers a wide range of services including health information, advice and treatment for a variety of minor illnesses and injuries, vaccinations, maternity medical services and minor surgery. Visit www.merseyviewsurgery.co.uk to find out more.
