Care UK colleagues Steve Regent, Tony Weedon and Mike Osbourne were delighted to find that they were featured in yesterday’s Evening Standard newspaper in a feature about careers in social care.

The article was debunking two myths – that a career in care is only for women and that it only offers low paid jobs.

Steve Regent is a recovery support worker at our Penfold Lodge home in Clacton. His work helps residents with mental health conditions to develop their self esteem and confidence so that they can live more fulfilling lives. Steve decided to join Care UK after working in horticulture for over 20 years.

Also in the article, Care UK operations director Mike Osbourne  talks about the pros and cons of working in care and criticises society’s attitude for not valuing and celebrating people who deliver such an essential service.

Mike also mentions his residential care colleague Tony Weedon who joined Care UK as a chef 21 years ago and is now one of the top directors responsible for over 40 care homes. Evidence indeed that a career in care does have excellent prospects for those who want to gain qualifications and follow a structured career path with one of the bigger social care providers.
