In memory of Peggy

Residents and the Cumberland House team came together for a special day of celebration to remember a former resident of the home.

Peggy Mark, who sadly passed away five years ago, was remembered at the home for her bright smile and dedication to teaching yoga to many of her fellow residents.

Peggy had only given up teaching yoga the year before moving to the home in 2004 but she continued to practice it in her room and always made sure that yoga was a key part of her life.

Activities Coordinator Laura Shepherd: “Peggy was a beautiful person with a wonderful smile and when I remember her showing us how to do yoga it makes me smile. She once got our Operations Director lying on the floor with her legs in the air, only Peggy could have done that, she was so charming and enthusiastic.”

When Peggy died, her sister Pam, who had been delighted with the care Peggy received at Cumberland House, gave a bequest to the home in her memory.

After a memorial service conducted by the vicar of Mitcham Parish Church, a brass memorial plaque to Peggy commissioned by the home was unveiled, and a set of metal wind chimes placed in the garden.

Laura said: “When the wind blows the chimes play the Anniversary Waltz, which was a favourite of Peggy’s. It will be lovely to be able to remember her as the chimes play.”
