Barlborough's first surgery patient hits the bullseye

One of the very first patients at Barlborough NHS Treatment Centre, whose surgery was carried out nearly five years ago, is still reaping the benefits......by becoming a darts champion!

Following two successful hip replacements, Judy Martin, aged 69, from Bentley, Doncaster is the captain of the West End Club Darts Team which last year came third in the District League.

Judy had her right hip replaced in July 2005, followed by her left hip not long afterwards.  A grandmother of 13, she hadn’t heard of Barlborough hospital until her doctor recommended it telling her that “it’s fabulous”.  The hospital, run by Care UK on behalf of the NHS, provides high quality specialist orthopaedic care for the people of South Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Lincolnshire.

Judy comments: “Before my operation I couldn’t stand for any length of time, playing darts is my passion and I’m very grateful that I could get back into the game.  I cannot praise the staff enough. Nothing was too much trouble; if I needed them they were there for me, even the domestic staff greeted me with a smile each morning.  The food was very good and the nursing I received was excellent.  I was so glad to have my second operation there and I’m very pleased to say I am now pain free.  I have told numerous people about brilliant Barlborough.”
