Residents at Milner House were very excited about the Diamond Jubilee as many of them could still remember the Coronation of the Queen in 1953.
They participated in various activities to plan for the event which included.
Designing stamps for the Queen’s Jubilee
Writing down messages to the Queen which were displayed during the Jubilee weekend
Colouring “the Queen” themed pages
Reminiscence about the Coronation of the Queen ( this session was led by Florence one of our residents and was concluded with a good old fashion singalong)
One of our residents, Geoffrey, showed a collection of his scrapbooks regarding the Royal Family
Due to bad weather on June 4th, we had our party indoors. The lounges, dining rooms and corridors were decorated with banners, balloons and bunting in the style of a street party.
Residents enjoyed a special lunch followed by a BBQ party in the afternoon. Relatives and friends joined the residents and staff for a very British party including entertainment by Tony dancing, for residents and guests, face painting and a special jubilee cake.
Many of the residents also enjoyed watching the Jubilee Pageant on the Thames on TV.
