There were toes tapping at Care UK’s Cumberland nursing home on St Patrick’s Day, when residents and their guests enjoyed a day of traditional Irish fun and hospitality.
Activities Coordinator Rachel Yeoman and the staff at the home in Whitfield Gardens helped residents decorate the home for a day of shamrock- and blarney-related fun.
Rachel said: “We have a lively group of residents who enjoy a party, so we are started the celebrations off with a St Patricks Church Service at 10.30am, followed by a traditional Irish stew and apple pie menu at lunch.
“After lunch, we had some musicians in to entertain the residents and their friends and relatives with some traditional Irish music.”
The celebrations ended with a festive tea. Rachel said: “We are very keen to have as many events and celebrations as possible, as they spark so many memories for residents and they create more happy memories for them and their relatives.”
The Cumberland nursing home provides expert dementia care for 57 older people with a range of dementia and other related conditions. It is close to the local shops and amenities and staff work with residents to help them maintain an active and fulfilled life.
