We are officially champions!

Staff at Pinetum celebrated national Dignity in Action Day, on Wednesday 1st February, by discussing issues around dignity and signing up to join the Dignity Champion scheme.

Created by the Social Care Institute for Excellence, Dignity Champions believe passionately that being treated with dignity is a basic human right, not an optional extra. They believe that care services must be compassionate, person-centred, as well as efficient, and are willing to try to do something to achieve this.

Manager Tracy Simpson said: “Everyone at Pinetum already holds these values and every day we put them into action with our work with residents, but we wanted to officially join in and add our voice to such a worthwhile campaign.”

Signing up on the day, Dignity Champion Adele Elliot pledged to:
- stand up and challenge disrespectful behaviour rather than just tolerate it;
- act as a good role model by treating other people with respect, particularly those who are less - able to stand up for themselves;
- speak up about dignity to improve the way that services are organised and delivered;
- influence and inform colleagues;
- listen to and understand everyone’s views and experiences.

To further celebrate the campaign, everyone in the home celebrated with a special cream tea on Friday 3rd February.
