Residents and relatives will be celebrating national Dignity in Action Day on Wednesday 1st February, with a purple-themed party to mark the day.
As well as enjoying a purple celebration cake, a raffle and fun-packed activities in the specially-decorated lounge, residents will also be wearing a purple buttonhole - flowers for the ladies or ribbon ties for the men.
Staff have also prepared a special pamper session for residents that include treats for hair and nails.
A number of staff are marking the day by signing up to become official dignity champions. Created by the Social Care Institute for Excellence, dignity champions believe passionately that being treated with dignity is a basic human right, not an optional extra. They believe that care services must be compassionate and person-centred, as well as efficient, and are willing to try to do something to achieve this.
Manager Jean Cadman said: “Everyone here already holds these values and every day we put them into action. Dignity is more than just privacy - we want to help our residents stay as independent as possible. And for those who are unable to communicate their wishes, we want to ensure that everything is done to find out what those wishes would be and ensure they are respected.”
Becoming champions are:
Maxine Chung – activities co-ordinator
Georgina Whitehead – night carer
Diane Chamley – carer
Deborah Priestley – carer
