Turning back the clock

Residents at Hadrian Park care home can enjoy a trip down memory lane thanks to a newly opened 1940s/50s reminiscence room.

The parlour room, which is the brainchild of Activities and Social Life Coordinator Karen Young, is decorated with memorabilia including old typewriters and sewing machines, a piano, vintage games and books, teapots and teacups, household items and bunting.

Karen said: "The rooms is a brilliant resource for the centre and our residents. It's amazing how many memories are brought back simply by walking in here. We have a lot of residents with dementia and Alzheimer's Disease and they say 'oh my mum used to have one of those' or @I remember this' - it's lovely to hear."

Karen is planning to hold tea mornings and quizzes in the room to help the residents remember times gone by.

If you have any memorabilia from the 1940s or 1950s, Hadrian Park would be very grateful for any donations for the room.
