Residents at Whitby Dene celebrated the national Dignity in Action campaign with a week of events and some tasty treats.
Activities co-ordinator Mark Winter is passionate about helping older people to maintain their interests and life skills, so he created a week-long event based around food and nutrition to highlight some of the issues surrounding dignity and age.
Mark said: “Our residents love food and have an interest in trying new things, so I created a series of activities that not only gives them the opportunity to explore new tastes, but that also keeps up their life skills and creativity.”
Residents made and decorated a variety of cakes and designed and made their own smoothies from fruit and vegetables.
Mark said: “We also had discussions around food. Our discussions are always interesting as we have people from different cultures and backgrounds with very different memories of food and mealtimes.”
The home, in Eastcote, offers residential care and support to older people including specialist dementia care.
