Carys Done, administrator at Pinetum nursing home, Chester, has been recognised for her outstanding contribution to residents and their relatives at a special awards ceremony.
The award was made by Care UK, which runs 88 residential and nursing homes across England and Scotland and cares for more than 5,000 residents.
Carys, who has worked at the home for 20 years, was praised for her outstanding commitment, compassion and dedication to helping everyone, no matter how busy she finds herself. Her role extended beyond Pinetum and she has supported other functions with marketing, recruitment and admin training.
Pinetum manager Tracy Simpson said: “She is always trying to make a difference to people, whether it’s her colleagues or our residents and families. She takes a personal interest in people and if she can see a way to make a difference, she will ensure it is done.
“She sees the world through the eyes of our service users and customers. She is always there for them with a welcoming smile and kind words. She always makes time to have a chat with them and listen to them when they need a friend.
“I have seen her sit with relatives, comforting them and giving them excellent advice, for half an hour at a time, even though she is extraordinarily busy. Many of the complimentary letters we receive point out the bond Carys formed with them.”
Staff also love Carys and describe her as a rock – someone they can rely on whatever is going on, at any time of day and someone who will never say ‘that’s not my job.”
Carys said “I really enjoy working at Pinetum - I feel that we can really make a difference to our service users and their families by going the extra mile. I am overwhelmed by this award and pleased to receive it on behalf of the bigger team.”
