A special three week trip to St Lucia reunited resident Bernard Polimus with his family and his roots.
Bernard has been a resident on the young onset dementia unit since Forrester Court was commissioned and was able to make the visit thanks to Kensington team leader (Philip Pereria) who escorted and supported him throughout his trip.
Bernard met his father, siblings, niece and cousins. He also visited an apartment where he grew up as a boy. Throughout the journey, Bernard spent time in his family farm, played dominoes, attended a charity dinner, attended the family’s church, and visited sulphur springs.
Being back home brought back many memories and Bernard said everything seemed to be the same as he left them. He said it was emotional to see his 97 year old father but there were lots of smiles.
This trip is an example of how at Forrester Court we continue to seek ways to improve our service, be creative in our care provision and always go the extra mile in our commitment to fulfilling the lives of our residents.
