Forrester Court wins approval of national care inspectors

A national care watchdog has given Forrester Court the seal of approval, with relatives and residents praising its caring and attentive team members.

The Care Quality Commission’s (CQC) report gave Forrester Court an overall ‘good’ rating, following an unannounced inspection.

The care home was rated ‘good’ in five out of five categories for safety, effectiveness, caring, being well-led, and responsiveness.

The team received praise for their compassion, and it was noted how the team responded to residents’ requests kindly and promptly. One resident told inspectors, “We all get on well.”

The report highlighted that Forrester Court was a safe place for residents, with one person commenting that, “It’s very safe and I’m well looked-after by everyone.” Another resident described the home as being a “calm place”.

The team received praise for overcoming potential obstacles to ensure that every resident received tailored care to suit their need. Inspectors observed how, for one resident who could not speak English, the team had worked with the resident’s family to put together phrases which were displayed above the resident’s bed, so everyone could communicate with them in their own language.

The personalised care approach received further praise, in particular how the team encouraged people to make their own choices. Residents’ choices were noted in individual care plans in a ‘this is me’ section. Within this are details of the residents’ lives, hobbies and preferences, which the care team use in conjunction with conversations with the families and residents so that the resident’s wishes are adhered to.

Shola Adedugbe-Adeyemi, home manager at Forrester Court, said: “We strive to create a welcoming ‘home-from-home’ feel at Forrester Court, and I’m so pleased our efforts have been recognised by the CQC inspectors. Everyone here works incredibly hard to support residents with compassionate, person-centred care, and to receive a ‘good’ rating in all five categories shows just how dedicated the team is at looking after every individual’s needs.

“I’m extremely proud of our team, and I would like to say thank you for their hard work and dedication, which I know is also greatly appreciated by residents and their families.”

The report also gave praise for the food on offer at the Care UK home. It was noted that residents are encouraged to maintain a healthy diet and that all dietary requirements are taken on board, with weekly menus comprising of a choice of options, including vegetarian meals.

Prior to choosing their meal, residents are shown sample plates of the dishes available to help them make their decision. Following each meal, the chefs ask the residents for feedback, which forms the basis of the following week’s menu.

Inspectors commented on the assortment of fruit and vegetables available, how appetising the food looked and how meal times were relaxed and calm.

To assess service standards at Forrester Court, the CQC’s inspector spoke with team members, residents and their visiting relatives on the day of the inspection. They also reviewed the records and procedures already in place at the care home.
