They attended the three-day recruitment fair at the Buxted Park Hotel, near Uckfield, to hear about the need for energetic and committed staff to manage and run Heather View, which opens to residents in August 2011.
Successful applicants will benefit from Care UK’s extensive and groundbreaking training and development programmes - and the promotion possibilities that exist within an organisation operating 59 care homes.
Sharon Mason, Care UK’s head of resourcing, said: “The recruitment event was a great success with people applying for roles as carers, nurses and ancillary staff. We’ll be letting successful candidates hear the good news over the next few days and I’m confident that we will be able to fill all of the vacancies.
“It is important to us that we are able to recruit from the local area. Our residents will be local people and it will be nice for them to be able to talk to the staff about local activities and areas they remember.” The home, in Beacon Road, Crowborough, will have 74 en-suite bedrooms and is specifically designed for frail older people and those with dementia. Project manager Sara Goodwin said: “The home is beautifully planned, with large windows to allow in lots of light and allow residents to see what is going on around them.
“We have also created an indoor village green that will have a working telephone box, post box and an old fashioned tea-shop and contemporary coffee shop.
“We want the home to be welcoming and family friendly. When children visit a grandparent in a home they can, understandably, become bored. Here they will be able to play on the village green and enjoy an ice-cream or a cream tea - helping our residents to maintain a fulfilled family life.”
Care UK will be employing between 35 and 40 people in this first wave of recruitment. These will join the team in July and undergo a three-week specialised Care UK training course before the home opens in August. Other staff will be recruited as more residents move to Heather View later in the year.
