Crewe Star Carer Celebrates 10 years of Award Winning Success

Carole has helped to make the home, which has 69 residents, one of the best in the country, carrying the Care Quality Commission’s highest inspection rating of three stars, or Excellent.

Carole’s innovative and compassionate approach to care management has led to a string of regional and national awards for the home. In 2010, Carole won the North West Care Award, impressing judges with her commitment to developing care for residents with dementia; staff members Kelly Harrison and Carol Clarke were finalists in the regional Care Awards; and Jamie Coppell won the Great British Care Awards’ best newcomer of the year.

Carole’s deputy of six years Sarah Evans said: "Carole sees the best in everyone – she has an ability to draw out their strengths and develop their skills and confidence. She is an incredible trainer and manager.

I have been her deputy for a long time and I love it because I am still learning - she always gives me opportunities to develop. She brings out the best in everyone and she always shares the credit for all the home’s successes."

Carole’s deep commitment to enriching the lives of people in residential care is also praised by staff, residents and their families. Sarah said: "We have such a wonderful collection of letters from relatives thanking us for the dignity, care and joy we have brought to their loved ones’ lives - that comes from Carole’s ethos, imbued throughout the staff."

The home has an excellent reputation for providing entertainment and activities for residents, winning the 2010 Care UK national award for its activity programme.

Carole is also north west training co-ordinator for Care UK’s Fulfilling Lives initiative which helps staff across the company to explore how they can make a real difference to the lives of the people they care for.

Carole was stunned at her surprise party when she received a presentation case for the home’s awards, along with champagne and flowers from staff and residents. She said: "I was feeling emotional but when I was given a beautiful book of memories of my time here, created by staff and residents, I just burst into floods of tears.

I am lucky to have a great team. We have worked hard together to create a home from home for the residents, a place where they can really live their lives the way they want to, enjoy their favourite activities and find new friendships.

I am so proud of everything we have achieved together and I’m looking forward to 10 more years and more trophies in the lovely new cabinet!"
