Bramble Court Extra Care estate opens in South Shields, Tyne and Wear

Extra Care services are the ideal solution for people whose needs mean that home care is no longer suitable for them but they are still independent enough to live in a self-contained environment. Care UK has been commissioned to provide the day to day care and support for residents in partnership with Hanover who developed and will manage the day-to-day running of the purpose-built estate.

Moving into a Care UK Extra Care estate means that the residents can benefit from care and support for up to 24 hours each day but they can still come and go as they please, in safety, through their own front door.

Bramble Court boasts 42 luxurious apartments and four bungalows, a large open restaurant area, a number of bright sitting and activity rooms, a hairdressers’, a grocery shop and even a specialist spa and treatment room. Relatives and guests can pre-book to stay overnight in the superb guest room which, like the residents’ apartments, overlooks the extensive landscaped gardens and outside spaces.

Bramble Court was opened by Cllr Thomas Piggott, the mayor of South Tyneside in front of the residents, their relatives and representatives from the local council, Hanover and Care UK. The residents, their guests and the visitors enjoyed a performance by The Peers of Harmony male choir before tucking into a delicious buffet lunch.

Gwen, aged 99, one of Bramble Court’s oldest residents said: “The Care UK staff are so friendly; they are really helping us to all settle in. Although I miss my own home where I grew up, I can see myself being very happy here”.

Lisa Roberts, Care UK’s branch manager for Tyne and Wear said: “It’s wonderful to see the residents all settling in so quickly and making friends. It’s so touching to know that we’re helping to build a new community and a place where people feel happy and safe. It really is a great example of how we work to fulfill the lives of the people we support.”

Care UK has a long and successful track record of delivering social care with service quality playing a key role in the company’s achievement of excellence. The Care Quality Commission (CQC) regulates, inspects and reviews all adult social care services in England. In 2010 the CQC rating put  Care UK above every other independent home care provider of a similar size
