South African staff from Barlborough NHS Treatment Centre treated children to view and learn about a whole host of instruments and cultural artefacts as part of a World Cup theme at a Rotherham school.

Children aged 4 and 5 years from Woodsetts Primary School were hooked and mesmerised as Agnes Chirozvi, originally from Zimbabwe and Edie Fick, from Durban in South Africa, played ‘typical’ South African music, showed the class beautiful textiles/crafts and helped them to explore maps of the World Cup’s host nation.

The children were allowed to play musical instruments such as the vuvuzela, a plastic horn that produces a very distinct sound.  Edie kindly donated a World Cup mascot which one of the children won.

Graeme Kendall, Manager at Care UK’s Barlborough NHS Treatment Centre said: “My colleagues really enjoyed taking part in the school’s World Cup talk.  It’s very important for children to learn about different cultures and Barlborough NHS Treatment Centre was more than happy to help. I’m very proud that my staff are giving something back to the community.”
