Treatment Centre operates on 10,000th patient!

Southampton NHS Treatment Centre, which opened in October 2008, has operated on its 10,000th patient, Ben Marshall from Millbrook in Southampton.

Ben, who’s a delivery driver in the city, came to the Treatment Centre in February to have his wisdom teeth removed, and was surprised to be invited back a few weeks later with wife Sam and sons Keegan and McKenzie to receive a hamper from the Centre’s General Manager, Paula Friend and discuss the care he received with her and her team.

Ben said: “I was shocked to get a call saying I was the 10,000th patient to be operated on, at first I thought it was my friends playing a joke on me!  However when I realised I really was the 10,000th patient I was only too happy to come back to the Treatment Centre to show my appreciation for the standard of care they gave me.”

Ben had suffered with pain in his wisdom teeth for quite some time and had been prescribed antibiotics and painkillers to try and cure the problem.  However the decision was taken that the teeth needed to be removed and after his dentist referred him to the Treatment Centre, Ben was offered an appointment within days:

“I couldn’t believe how quickly they offered me an appointment.  I couldn’t make the first one because of work commitments, but as soon as I could take some time off work they booked me in.  I was quite apprehensive as it was my first ever visit to a hospital for treatment, but it went really smoothly and I’m now really pleased I had it done.”

Paula Friend, General Manager at Southampton Treatment Centre said: “It’s amazing to think that in the relatively short time since we opened in October 2008 we have operated on over 10,000 people.  We’d like to thank Ben and his family for helping us mark the occasion as we feel this gives us a chance to highlight the fantastic work we undertake here.  We have an excellent patient satisfaction record and have never had a case of MRSA or C-difficile.  Also, as Ben’s experience shows, we are also able to offer greatly reduced waiting times to NHS patients from throughout Hampshire and it’s important people recognise that if they do need treatment for one of the specialties we provide, they can choose to be treated here.”
