New knee has Francis dancing with joy!

Life is once again ‘rockin’ for 68 year old Francis from Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, since he had his knee replaced at Barlborough hospital in November 2009.

Francis, from Kirkby-in-Ashfield, waited over two years to have his operation at another local hospital before being referred to Barlborough by his GP. “For over two years, I was back and forth for one thing and another, it was ridiculous,” said Francis, “life was standing still and I’m only 68.”

After his GP booked him an appointment at Barlborough, things moved rather more swiftly. Francis came to Barlborough for his assessment and within 2 weeks he had his new knee and was looking forward to the future.

“It’s been brilliant I can’t fault it at all.  It’s a team effort and it works.  My wife and I were sat at home afterwards and half expected a bill to come through the post for private care, it’s that good,” said Francis of his stay at Barlborough.

A keen rock ‘n’ roller, Francis was thrilled to be walking without his stick less than seven weeks after the operation and is looking forward to getting back into the jive.  “I feel like a new bloke and I’m looking forward to going to a 60s weekend with my wife.  We are also keen walkers and it will be great to be able to walk pain-free and without a limp.” he said.

Francis is keen to spread the word about Barlborough hospital and its quality of care. He said: “There must be people across the country, like myself, who are desperate for an operation and would benefit greatly by coming to Barlborough. It’s so simple and easy to get to.  I hope it continues into the future. ”

Barlborough Hospital is run by Care UK on behalf of the NHS.  Also known as an independent sector treatment centre, it is located less than a mile from Junction 30 of the M1 near Chesterfield.
