Carers going above and beyond the call of duty

Carla, is just one example of Care UK’s unsung heroes who has been singled out by relatives of a Chester resident for her kindness and devotion, which, they said, went above and beyond the call of duty.

Carla, a carer working from Care UK’s Chester branch was caring for Mrs Meredith, or ‘Mrs M’ as she liked to be known as, for five months before Mrs M sadly passed away earlier this year.

Carla provided sleepover care, which involved helping Mrs M in and out of bed, bathing her, making her breakfast and dinner and anything else she could do to make Mrs M feel comfortable.

When Carla first started to provide care for her, Mrs M was mobile, she was able to get around by using a zimmer frame or wheelchair but, as time went on, her condition started to deteriorate and she eventually became bedbound.

Sadly Mrs M passed away one week after her 90th birthday, but Carla continued to support her five daughters, as they were so distraught.

Carla said: “I knew exactly how they would have felt as I was in the same situation with my father-in-law.”

In a letter written by Mrs M’s family it said: “Without Carla we could not have coped as well as we did. She truly is an angel. She was the backbone and we couldn’t have got through it without her.”

Lorraine Kingham, Chester branch manager said: “I felt really proud that Carla was one of my carers. The client’s daughter told me that she sings her praises all the time to every one she sees.

Mrs M’s daughter said she went above and beyond the call of duty, and they even said a special thank you to Care UK and Carla at the church.”
