Patients give top marks to local Treatment Centre

New statistics show that patients at the Barlborough NHS Treatment Centre continue to rate the service very highly. The latest patient survey results from an independent audit carried out for the Department of Health show that patients gave the service top marks on numerous measures including: how they were treated, cleanliness and the performance of staff.

Key findings of the patient survey results include:

98 per cent of patients said they would probably or definitely recommend the hospital to family and friends
99 per cent of patients said they had confidence and trust in the doctors and nurses treating them
99 per cent of patients said they felt they were treated with respect and dignity

Comments from patients who were surveyed included:

“Everyone from the porters to the surgeons worked as a team and gave me the best possible care at all times.  Spotlessly clean wards and toilets too."

“The whole process, from consultation to aftercare, was done efficiently and cheerfully.”
“All the good things I heard about Barlborough were true.  I would recommend it.”

Praise for the centre continued further this month after it scored highly in the annual PEAT inspection of hospital food, cleanliness, infection control and patient environment.

The Patient Environment Action Team (PEAT) assesses standards of cleanliness and food across the NHS. The assessors – including patients and staff – carry out annual inspections of healthcare sites in England.

Organisations are given scores between 1 (unacceptable) and 5 (excellent) for each of the three PEAT categories (Environment, Food, Privacy and Dignity).

For 2008/9, Barlborough rated ‘Good’ for Environment, ‘Acceptable’ for Food and ‘Excellent’ for Privacy and Dignity.

Graeme Kendall, General Manager at the Treatment Centre said:

“Once again, I am delighted to see that our patients are rating us so highly when it comes to their care.  Our team at Barlborough are committed to providing the very best levels of care for our patients and we will continue to make sure that treatment is of an excellent standard.

This was the first year the treatment centre was rated in the annual PEAT assessment and we are extremely encouraged by the results.  The rating for food wasn’t as high as we’d hoped but we are already working very closely with our catering supplier to ensure that we gain a higher rating next year.”
