Cliff Ross is a diabetic who lives in a one-bedroom flat in a sheltered housing complex in Romford. He is largely confined to a wheelchair as he lost a leg in 2005 due to his diabetes when septicaemia set in. He would like to use a false leg, but finds it uncomfortable and he has complications that make wearing it difficult.
Cliff used to be a very active man. He is a former policeman - now retired on a pension - and then went on to be a leader for parks attendants in the area.
Cliff says that as a result of his cataracts in both eyes, his world over the last few years has become smaller and smaller. Due to his eyesight he was no longer able to drive, so he felt his world was closing in on him leaving him more confined more to his flat.
As a result of the cataract operations he has had at the North East London Treatment Centre, he feels that his life has suddenly opened up again. His eyesight has improved markedly, so much so that he can now see well enough to use his computer to keep in touch with the outside world and he is even planning to contact the DVLA to see if he can get his driving licence back again so that he can become mobile. He wants to be able to drive around Romford and further afield now.
He cannot speak highly enough of the care and attention he received at the North East London Treatment Centre. He said the staff were magnificent towards him and he will always be grateful to them.
We are happy to arrange interviews with a range of experts, commentary on industry issues and site visits for filming, photography or sound recording. Please get in touch with your requirements and we will do our best to arrange a suitable response.
