Councillors give go-ahead to new nursing home in Portsmouth

The new state-of-the-art nursing home will provide Portsmouth with its eagerly anticipated promised replacement for Harry Sotnick House and the new home will keep the Harry Sotnick name.

The new home, in Cranleigh Avenue, Buckland, will have 92 beds and will provide specialised nursing care for older people with dementia. The city council has been working closely with Care UK, its preferred bidder for the contract to build and manage the home. Care UK are one of the country’s leading providers of health and social care and work across the UK, operating over 50 nursing homes and providing over 120.000 hours of care and support to people in their own homes every week.

The facilities at the new state of the art home will include: landscaped gardens, a sensory garden, secure courtyards for residents to enjoy the outdoors safely, a hairdressing salon, a rehab room/gym, and even an internet café for “silver surfers”.

The new building is being funded by Portsmouth City Council, and Care UK will have a 25 year contract to provide the care services in the home.

Care UK already operate over 57 nursing and residential homes, providing care to more than 3,100 older people across the UK. Care UK’s core philosophy of care is centred on helping our residents stay active and make their own decisions about what they do and how they spend their time.
