Meet our friendly care team

At Paisley court, it's the people that make our care home the warm and welcoming place it is. Although we all come from different backgrounds and experiences, we work together as a team to ensure residents make the most of every day.

Christina Owens

Home Manager

Christina Owens

Residents are at the forefront of everything we do here at Paisley Court.

We consider it a huge privilege to care for them and are proud their families trust us to do this.

I am a registered nurse and have worked my way up from carer to home manager which has been a big career highlight for me. I chose to work for Care UK because I am particularly interested in caring for residents with Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia.

In all care roles, you need to have empathy and patience. Even more so when you support those living with dementia. I find having a good sense of humour helps immensely too.

For me, I think the best part of every day is knowing that residents and colleagues are happy here. Paisley Court is a wonderful home with a great family atmosphere where we support each other in a caring and nurturing way.

In my spare time, I like to walk, swim and spend time with my family.

Shell Birch

Deputy Manager

I have a level three NVQ and was a unit manager before progressing to deputy manager. The support Care UK provide to teams is one of the reasons why I decided to work here, along with the organisation’s values and vision.

To do this role well, you need to have empathy, patience and be passionate about caring for others. You also need a good work ethic; a sense of humour goes a long way too.

We’re here to ensure that residents live a fulfilling life and as a team, we achieved a CQC ‘good’ rating which we’re all really proud of. Paisley Court has a solid reputation in our community and with other healthcare professionals.

One of the best feelings is when the whole home comes together, for example, at mealtimes and for activities. It is wonderful to see the positive impact we have and to see the bonds created between colleagues and residents.

Lifestyle Coordinator

I’m a real people person, which you have to be in my role. Other important qualities are being patient and being a good communicator, as well as being naturally positive and happy.

I love that every day brings something different and is an opportunity to make people happy. Before joining the team here, I was a youth worker, so I have lots of experience co-ordinating people and activities.

Recently, we held a Valentine’s dance for residents, their families, friends and colleagues which was great fun. I feel proud of my work here and being able to put a smile on people’s faces.

When I’m not at Paisley Court, I enjoy socialising and spending time with friends.

Head Chef

Before joining Paisley Court, I trained as a chef in restaurants all around the world which was fantastic experience. But I had heard a lot of great things about Care UK as an organisation which is why I decided to join.

To be a chef you need to have patience and passion. You also need to be prepared to keep learning and make sure everything is kept up to date in the kitchen.

One great aspect of working in a home environment is that we can talk to residents and find out what they like. I always feel proud knowing that the food I have prepared is being enjoyed. Having wonderful colleagues is also a big highlight for me.

Outside of work, I enjoy being with my family.

Clinical Lead

I have a BSc in nursing and am a registered nurse. I joined Care UK because of the organisation’s ethos and belief in teamwork which mirror my own values. I feel proud to work somewhere, where you can see the positive difference you can make in someone’s life.

In my role, it is important to be patient and be a good listener. Being a good team player is essential too.

Working in care means there are lots of different challenges to deal with every day. It’s rewarding and satisfying to ensure that we rise to those challenges and provide the very best care possible. As a team, we always set daily goals and make sure they have been achieved at the end of the day.

I love to spend my free time with family and have a good laugh with them as well as my friends.

Elaine Brereton

Unit Manager

I have worked at other care homes but working at Care UK has been a real highlight. From a career point of view, there is plenty of support and there are lots of different roles and paths for progression. I have level 2,3,4 and 5 NVQs.

I am lucky and proud to feel appreciated. No day is ever the same and there can be challenges, but seeing residents happy and feeling safe is one of the best parts of working here. For me, it is so important that residents can be supported here rather than remain in the hospital.

Working in care means you have to be understanding and genuinely care about people. What we do here makes such a difference to individuals and their families.

When I’m not busy working, I enjoy reading and dining out. I also love going on holidays and visiting my family.

Dementia Care Coach Team Leader

We have such a fantastic team here at Paisley Court and it’s a real privilege to be part of it. The most important part of all our roles here is to provide residents with exceptional care that enables them to live a fulfilling life.

Working in care, you have to be able to adapt because there are challenges. You also need to be understanding, organised and be prepared to grow and develop.

I’ve been asked to carry out talks and presentations in my capacity as dementia care coach, which is an honour. I’ve also been on Radio Merseyside to talk about dementia, it’s great that there is more awareness and discussion about this nowadays.

Care UK is an organisation with values I really respect and there is fantastic support for colleagues. I started as a care assistant but have progressed and achieved level three NVQs in adult care, and in leadership and management. I have also completed a level five in further education and training.

I am a very family orientated person, so I prefer to spend as much of my free time as possible with them. I particularly enjoy going out for family meals or going shopping.

Receptionist

I wanted to be part of the Care UK team because I am interested in mental health, I have also had training in dementia care.

As a receptionist, I am usually the first person you’ll meet, so being friendly and approachable are essential. You also need to be helpful and organised with a genuine interest in supporting the wellbeing of residents. It’s important that everyone feels welcome in our home.

One of the best parts of the day for me is seeing residents take part in activities, particularly karaoke, which is such good fun! It’s also rewarding to feel appreciated by residents and families when you help them with queries.

My interests outside of work include holistic therapies, reading and walking.

Jennifer Smith

Head Housekeeper

I get a lot of job satisfaction in my role as a housekeeper here. We all work really hard to do the best job we can. It’s a great feeling when you know you have achieved everything you need to do by the end of the day.

I have had lots of training including life support, dementia training, fire safety, and COSHH (which stands for Control of Substances Hazardous to Health).

Working in a care home means you need to be kind and have a generally positive attitude. For residents, Paisley Court is their home, and we work hard to keep it a safe and happy place.

In my free time, I like to play football, go walking and play bingo. I also enjoy socialising and going on holiday.

Maintenance

Before joining the Paisley Court team, I was a painter and decorator so I have lots of practical experience.

Joining Care UK has given me the opportunity to learn new skills. I have had training in health and safety, fire safety, and basic life support. I have also completed a safeguarding adults course.

I like to see a good job that is well done. It also feels good to support residents, making sure that their home is safe and properly maintained.

Outside of work, I enjoy sport, travelling and listening to music.
