There’s plenty to celebrate this Care Home Open Day at Wellmeadow Lodge

The team and residents at Wellmeadow Lodge care home in Newton Mearns, Glasgow, will be marking this national Care Home Open Day with a summer fete and the official opening of their brand new Dunkeld unit.

Care Home Open Day is an annual UK-wide event when hundreds of care homes open their doors to showcase what it’s like to live in a care home, and the work of the dedicated teams who staff the homes. Wellmeadow Lodge will be holding a summer fete on 20th June, including a ribbon cutting ceremony for its new 25 bed unit.

The Dunkeld unit has been created to provide round-the-clock nursing care for frail elderly residents and is on the first floor of the main care home building. All of the unit’s bedrooms have en-suite facilities and there’s a fully kitted out bathroom for residents needing assisted bathing.

The unit also has a very large open plan dining and lounge area and there’s a new kitchen for residents if they wish to make their own drinks and snacks. As well as having dedicated nursing and care staff, the new unit has activity coordinators who keep residents busy and engaged with a variety of daily group and one-to-one activities.

The rest of Wellmeadow Lodge has also recently been redecorated, with new carpets and furniture for communal spaces and completely refurbished communal bathrooms.

Residents’ families, friends and members of the local community are very welcome to come and see the great results on 20th June and enjoy the home’s summer fete, with musical entertainment in the garden, plus competitions, stalls and afternoon tea.

Sharon McGowan, home manager at Wellmeadow Lodge says, “We’re very proud of our new unit and are thrilled at how Wellmeadow Lodge is looking. The quality of life for residents is really enhanced when they can enjoy beautiful surroundings. We’ve involved residents in many aspects of the changes and they’ve chosen the colour scheme of the new unit themselves.

“We love seeing visitors at any time, but Care Home Open Day is a great excuse for locals to come along, look around, and find out about the great work that goes on in our lovely home. We hope to see everyone on 20th June.”
