Home Manager

Katie Cliff

My favourite part of each day is seeing residents happy.

It’s the most important part of what we do, and it fills my heart with joy, knowing that they feel seen and heard.

We aim to make every day fulfilling. To do that you need a good dose of patience, understanding, compassion and empathy. You also need to be an effective listener and be willing to help. Having a great sense of humour is a definite bonus too.

It is important to me that my colleagues feel supported so that they can be the best they can be. At Mayfield View, we work as a harmonious team, maintaining high standards no matter what day or time it is. I feel really proud of the home I have helped create. It is a safe, stable and comfortable home with much love in it.

I’ve been a qualified nurse for 15 years and completed my last level five diploma in 2016. I have worked in care homes since qualifying and have carried out various roles including clinical lead and deputy manager.

I would say a career highlight for me was when I managed to complete a leadership training programme while pregnant. I also had an article published by Skills for Care, which helps develop adult social care in England . I should also mention, I won the CEO Recognition Award in 2024 in our team awards which was an honour.

I’ve been married now for seven years, and my husband and I have two children, aged six and two. We enjoy lots of family adventures and eating out when we can.

In my role, being friendly is one of the most important qualities to have. Not just from a caring perspective, but so that people feel at ease and confident that they’ll be listened to and taken seriously. Being calm also helps. It provides reassurance and builds trust and supports professional relationships.

I earned a first-class honours degree in adult nursing in 2018 and have previously worked on NHS wards. Moving to a care home was a big change for me, but it’s been such a highlight. Even on the most stressful days, being with residents reminds me of why we’re here.

One of the best parts of what I do now, is the interaction we have with residents and their families. Everyone feels comfortable enough to pop in and say hello or ask for a little update. We also do a lot of community events and activities and have welcomed lots of local groups into the home.

Bringing the wider community into Mayfield View has been so positive. It shows people the support and kindness we offer and has increased awareness of the home and what we do.

I am so proud of the team here and the care and compassion they show, particularly with our end-of-life care. Their efforts have been officially recognised as exceptional with a team award. We also have families that come back to us so that we can support other relatives. I think this really underlines the outstanding care we provide.

In my spare time, I love walking and being outdoors. I also enjoy going to the theatre and watching live music.

Residential Deputy Manager

To work in care, you need to be passionate about putting the needs of residents first. In my role, you also need to set a good example and live the values you want your team to have. For me, that means treating others with respect and supporting residents with a holistic approach to their care. I’m proud of the fact we can go home and know that we’ve made a positive difference to residents’ lives.

As deputy manager, it is also up to me to supervise and support colleagues, enabling them to deliver the best care they can. One thing I like to do is to come in a little early each morning so I can catch up with our night team during their handover session.

I have also been studying and have finished my level four in adult social care. I am now enrolled at Leeds Beckett University and hope to complete my training to become a registered nurse in the next couple of years . I have also completed a level four in management.

When I’m not working or studying, I enjoy cooking and walking. I often like to stop off in a cafĂ© for a nice leisurely coffee too. I am also planning to adopt a cat.
