Tracy Norbury

Home Manager

Tracy Norbury

I joined Care UK in 2004: I started working here part-time as a domestic when I was doing my A levels.

I then became a Carer before doing my nurse training. And here I am today as Home Manager.

I love walking through Hollins Park at the beginning of the day, seeing colleagues and having a chat, and getting the day off to a good start. I enjoy catching up with residents during the day, talking to them and finding out what they’ve been up to.

In 2017 I won Best Nurse Specialist/Dementia Lead at the National Dementia Care Awards. It was an honour to win, especially as I’d won the Good Nurse category at the North West finals of the Great British Care Awards a few weeks earlier!

I was so proud of the Hollins Park team when we won the Great Dementia Care award at Care UK’s own RCS Stars Awards in 2019. It capped off an amazing year for us: we’d gained an ‘outstanding’ overall rating from the Care Quality Commission (with ‘outstanding’ ratings in four out of five areas that the CQC inspects) and reached the finals in various national care awards.

I’ve been with Care UK since 2005. I’m a Registered Nurse, and before I joined Care UK, I’d been a haemodialysis nurse. However, I was keen to develop my skills and experience in another sector of nursing, so I decided to move into care home work.

I love having any opportunity to help and support other people, whether that’s residents themselves, their loved ones, or my colleagues. While helping people is its own reward, it was a huge highlight when I received a ROCK (Recognition of Care and Kindness) award.

The team at Hollins Park is single-minded about quality and enhancing residents’ lives, and I’m looking forward to seeing the home develop and prosper further. All eyes are now focused on achieving an ‘outstanding’ rating at our next CQC inspection!

I’m a Registered Mental Health Nurse, and I’ve worked for Care UK for many years. I used to work at Crewe Hospital, but my passion for dementia care led me to move into care home nursing.

Supporting people who are living with dementia is extremely rewarding, and I believe in seeing the person behind the dementia. The residents are like family to us here at Hollins Park. There’s a strong sense of community in our home, and we love having visitors.

We’ve a strong clinical team here at Hollins Park and both our home manager and deputy are experienced nurses too. Working with our care team, we ensure residents experience the best possible care. As the IPC champion I deliver training and offer information and advice to all colleagues to ensure we’re achieving the highest standards of hygiene and cleanliness across the home every minute of every day.

I’ve worked in the care sector for twenty years, and used to be a senior carer in a residential home. When I was looking for a new challenge, I knew I wanted to stay working in the sector. This seemed the ideal role to enable me to try something new while staying in a sector I love.

Every day is different in this role, but everything I do is focused on ensuring the best possible quality of life for the people we care for. I aim to listen to every resident’s needs, and to be empathetic and non-judgmental. It’s important to manage your time well too, and to think on your feet as things change quickly.

Every person we care for is unique, with unique needs, and every interaction with them is unique. I tailor activities to suit each person’s needs and interests so they get the most out of each day.

In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family, friends, and getting out into the garden.

I worked in office-based roles for over 30 years, and, before joining the team at Hollins Park, I was a credit control administrator. When I was looking for a change, I did my research and discovered that Care UK had a great reputation for care, and for supporting its colleagues, so I applied for this role.

I’d never worked in a care home before, but I’m so proud to be part of the team here. My colleagues and managers are amazing. I love making the residents smile and supporting my colleagues with any issues. I’m looking forward to getting to know residents’ loved ones as well as learning more about the lovely people we care for.

I am a big cricket fan and have achieved a L3 Accreditation in Scoring. I score for Macclesfield CC, Cheshire Academy and England Disabilty.
