I’ve worked for Care UK for many years.

I joined Pinetum, another of its Chester care homes, in 2007 as a general nurse and was later promoted to senior nurse. After a couple of years away, I returned to the home as Deputy Manager in 2015 and became Home Manager in 2016.

I enjoy working in care homes. As a nurse, you can build relationships with the people you’re caring for and their families in a way that’s just not possible in a hospital setting where people come and go. I love the fact that we’re making a big difference to people’s lives and we get to see the evidence of that.

It’s a privilege to now be leading a brand new home for Care UK in Chester – Deewater Grange. I’m passionate about the potential of this stunning new home and of how we can make a difference to residents’ lives.

One of the best aspects of this job is meeting new residents and getting to know them and seeing them settle and enjoy life. We’re dedicated to finding out about the little details of people’s lives, and their preferences, so that we can include things they’ll enjoy and that will make them smile. That’s the secret to creating a true ‘home from home’.

I have worked in and managed nursing agencies before and have 40 years’ experience working in customer relations within the private sector. I chose to join Care UK because I wanted to stay in health and social care but play meaningful role where I felt I could really help people.

I feel incredibly proud that I am able to support families who are often struggling with making decisions about their loved ones. To make sure you’re giving the best advice and support you can, you definitely need to have empathy and kindness. A sense of humour always goes down well too, as does tenacity and honesty. You also have to be a team player.

I love spending time with residents and chatting to them about their lives. It is wonderful to see people happy and thriving. It is especially rewarding when I see people who I’ve helped bring here living full lives.

Outside of work, I have a passion for music, theatre, travel and food. I have sung in acapella choirs for over 30 years and have been lucky to combine my love for all these things by travelling extensively for my singing.

Lifestyle Coordinator

I’m an experienced Activity Coordinator and joined the Deewater Grange team when I relocated to Chester. As I was looking around for a new job, I saw that the home was on the look-out for some new recruits. It seemed like a great place to work, and Care UK’s values were very attractive, so I thought I’d apply.

I enjoy every part of the day. I work in a fantastic team and the rest of the home team is extremely friendly and supportive. This hardly feels like work!

I think it’s important to be flexible and to be able to think on your feet in this role as plans can change quickly. It’s also vital to be proactive, to have fantastic communication skills and to be able to motivate people.

I’m very excited about the future here at Deewater Grange. The possibilities are endless when we have everyone’s support to deliver the best, highest quality activities for residents.

I’ve worked in hotels and restaurants before joined Deewater Grange in 2020. I was very surprised and impressed when I saw the quality of food and dining that residents enjoy at Care UK. It’s hotel quality. I thought I could bring my own knowledge and skills to benefit the residents and enhance their experience even further.

The kitchen team is like my second family. We get on really well, which means coming to work is a joy. We’re also very passionate about doing our best for the residents and the team. Marco Pierre White is one of my cheffing idols, and I once got the chance to work alongside him, which taught me so much. I did some of my training in one of his Grillhouses too. It all showed me how crucial quality is to cooking.

One of my favourite times of the day is after dinner, when I go to the suites and have a chat with the residents. It’s a chance to find out how they are, what they’ve been doing, and to get their feedback about the food we’ve served.

Away from work, I get out and about with my other half. We’ve just got two huskie puppies, who are keeping us busy too.

After working for 13 years in the travel industry, the company I worked for ceased trading, so I decided to take on a new challenge. Care UK was recommended to me, and I liked the thought of working with a brand-new team and home in the care sector. I started as the home’s Receptionist in 2020 and have worked my way up to Business Administrator.

My role is to support the Home Manager. In this position, it’s important to be organised, caring, patient and approachable. You also need to be a team player and multi-tasker.

I enjoy chatting to residents and getting to know their families too. I’m proud to be the ‘go-to person’ for any help that is needed in the home, whether that’s from colleagues, residents or families. I’ve also received three ‘Going the Extra Mile’ awards since working for Care UK, which I’m very proud of.

As a mum of two children, most of my spare time is taken up by my son who plays football most days of the week, but I also enjoy watching and playing darts and going on holidays when I can.

I’ve been part of the Deewater Grange team since 2020 and my background is in housekeeping. I love working here and the highlight of my day is cleaning the residents’ rooms. They always look forward to having a chat and it’s wonderful to feel that I’ve made their day better as a result. I love being able to make residents smile.

I’m proud of the great relationships I’ve developed with the residents as well as my colleagues. In particular, on the dementia suite, I’ve been able to be a reassuring presence for residents. Because they know me, whenever there’s any change – perhaps a new carer starts – I can help to reassure them that all is well.

I enjoy motivating and leading my team so they do their best work, and helping us to work effectively with the other teams at Deewater Grange.

Outside of work I like to cook and bake, and I also enjoy going long walks in the countryside.

Id been working in the plumbing trade for several years before I was offered this role at Deewater Grange. I was over the moon to join the team because Care UK has such a great reputation.

I like the fact that no two days are the same at our Chester care home. It keeps me on my toes! Also being able to make a difference to an older persons life, even in a small way, is a great feeling.

These are exciting times at Deewater Grange as we welcome more new residents, and develop the home. Im looking forward to the challenges ahead and to learning and progressing as part of a fantastic team.

Outside of work I like to unwind by doing photography, and going to the skatepark with my son Lucas.

Canine Relations Manager

Hi everyone, I'm Mabel. I'm four years old and my white and fluffy appearance is due to me being a Chorkie - that is, a Chihuahua crossed with a Yorkshire Terrier.

You can find me around the home during the week when I'm available for treat eating and trick performing. I can sit, lie down, high five and roll over. If you've got the treats, I've got the tricks!

Mine is the best job you can have at Deewater Grange. I get to meet and greet visitors and I let residents make a fuss of me whenever they like. I also like to sit in on new staff interviews. What that really means is I like to sit on new staff in interviews. I'm here to make sure that new team members will love the residents as much as I do!

All our teams get to know each person they care for to ensure they provide a service that’s designed around their unique needs and tastes. 

Infection control

Each of our homes have a trained Infection Control and Prevention Champion – they are responsible for carrying out daily infection control audit and ensuring cleaning protocols are meticulously applied.
