A national care watchdog has given a Norwich care home its seal of approval, with relatives and residents commending the home’s caring and attentive team.
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) awarded Care UK’s Cavell Court, on Dragonfly Lane, an overall ‘good’ rating in all areas following an unannounced inspection.
The report highlighted the positive sentiments expressed by residents and relatives toward the home and its team members with one relative informing the inspectors that the team are “caring, careful and attentive” and another added “the staff are very nice, thoughtful and take care of him”.
Inspectors praised the team at Cavell Court for their care, commenting that “wellbeing was enhanced by knowing more about the persons' background, life experiences and needs”.
The team celebrates cultural diversity, embracing the unique traditions and backgrounds of every resident to create an inclusive community. Inspectors said: “the home celebrated different cultural events and individual events like birthdays” and one relative told inspectors that resident’s different religions and sexual orientations were recognised and celebrated.
The CQC report highlighted that residents were supported to maintain relationships and attend community events. This has included visiting ‘keeping fit’ classes, a Valentine’s Day dance and church services.
There is also an abundance of regular activities at the home tailored to residents, including pet therapy, arts and crafts, and outside entertainer visits. Inspectors commented that “peoples care records were person centred and linked to their previous life histories and experiences”.
Inspectors also observed team members showing kindness and respect while interacting and engaging with residents and having meaningful conversations about their lives and experiences.
The report highlighted the welcoming entrance way, expansive gardens and how the home has been carefully designed to promote residents independence and provide an enriching space to live. Inspectors also commented on the range of facilities within the home including a café and cinema room.
The home’s open culture meant that inspectors observed team members who “felt well supported and valued” and had lots of opportunity to provide feedback. CQC inspectors noted how positively the team spoke about how the home was run and how they felt well supported. The report noted that “management were approachable and responsive”.
Karen Curle, Home Manager at Cavell Court, said: “Everyone has contributed to making Cavell Court an unparalleled place to live and work, and this rating stands as a testament to everyone’s dedication to brightening each resident’s day.
“Our commitment to delivering high-quality care is unwavering, and we are proud to see this endorsement from the CQC. We believe that every resident deserves the best possible care and support, and this rating confirms our ongoing efforts to meet and exceed these standards.
“I look forward to celebrating this achievement with the team and residents and continuing to build on our success in delivering exceptional care.”
