Residents at a Basingstoke care home delivered more than 100 handmade cards to spread messages of hope and joy at a local hospital.
In honour of World Kindness Day this November, residents at Care UK’s Dashwood Manor, on Bradley Way, created 125 unique cards brimming with words of encouragement and positivity to gift to patients at Basingstoke Hospital.
Residents lovingly penned each card by hand, adding personal touches to extend their compassion to those facing illness or injuries. The cards were then hand-delivered to the hospital, where they will be distributed across the wards throughout November.
Bob Applin, 84, a resident at Dashwood Manor, said: “I was pleased to take part in a project that will hopefully cause a smile.
“I spent a short time on the cardiac ward and was treated with courtesy and kindness, so I wanted to give back and make someone else feel the way I did.”
Dil Perera, Home Manager at Dashwood Manor, added: “We’re incredibly proud of all the residents and team members at Dashwood Manor for all their hard work for such a great cause.
“Crafts and other creative activities can promote positive wellbeing for older people in a variety of therapeutic ways, improving mental wellbeing and encouraging a sense of purpose. We hope the cards will be well-received by patients, helping to lift their spirits.
“We had the pleasure of dropping the cards off at the hospital, and the team were very touched and grateful for everyone’s efforts!”
Dashwood Manor is designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives while also promoting independence. The care home incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities with luxury facilities, including a café, hair and beauty salon, cinema, bar and gardens.
