Hythe care home launches food bank drop-off point

A care home in Hythe has partnered with a local food bank to launch a new drop-off point for unwanted items.

To celebrate this year’s  Harvest Festival, residents and team members at Care UK’s Carpathia Grange, on Southampton Road, are encouraging the local community to donate their extra, unused or unwanted non-perishable food items to Hythe’s new foodbank drop-off-point – located in the care home’s reception.

Each year, Harvest Festival celebrates the time when crops have been gathered from fields and people can reflect and show gratitude for the food that they have. It dates back to when people relied on local crops for food and famers would give thanks for a good harvest.

The foodbank drop-off point, which will see donations made to Waitrose and Partners, is live at Carpathia Grange until Thursday 31st October, and located in the home’s reception.

Pooja Dhoot, Home Manager at Carpathia Grange, said: “At Carpathia Grange, we are always looking for ways to give back and support our community and local charities, which is why we’re delighted to be partnering with Waitrose and Partners and launching our first ever foodbank drop-off point.

“In these challenging times, we know many people may be struggling, and with Christmas fast approaching, it’s more important than ever to support foodbanks which provide a vital lifeline for many members of our local community.

“We’d encourage those who have unwanted or unused items to come and visit Carpathia Grange and support us to help those in need.”

The drop-off point is one of many Harvest Festival initiatives at Carpathia Grange this autumn. The home welcomed children from Southampton’s Little Shipmates Nursery for some intergenerational harvest fun, including arts, crafts and singing with residents. Residents also took part in a special soup-making session, where they learned to make their own soups using leftover ingredients to save on waste.

Carpathia Grange is a three-storey care home which provides residential, dementia and nursing care. The home features 62 en-suite bedrooms and has been designed to enable its residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence. The care home incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities and includes its own cinema, hair salon and café.
