Home Manager takes the helm at Wantage’s newest care home

Home news

A new care home in Wantage has announced the appointment of its home manager.

Care UK has appointed Carla Kell as the Home Manager to lead the team at Charlton Lodge, on Buttercup Road, when it opens in October.

Carla joins Care UK as a Home Manager with over 31 years' experience in the care sector. For the last four years, Carla has been Home Manager of another care home, also providing residential, nursing and dementia care.

Eager to join Care UK because of their proactive approach to caring for residents, Carla is looking forward to delivering exceptional care, alongside a variety of activities for future residents.

Passionate about organisation and professionalism, Carla places a strong focus on being calm, patient, proactive and empathetic when it comes to interacting with colleagues, residents, families and other stakeholders.

Carla’s new position will see her take responsibility for the day-to-day running of Charlton Lodge, which will provide residential, nursing and dementia care for up to 72 residents. Bringing a holistic approach to care, Carla will ensure residents are encouraged to live active and fulfilling lives while supporting them to remain as independent as possible.

Commenting on her new role, Carla said: “I’m delighted to have been appointed as the Home Manager for Charlton Lodge. I’m thrilled to be joining the Care UK family as an integral part of the new home.

“I place great value in being a trusted face within the home and the wider community, and I feel incredibly privileged to be taking on this role. As part of the leadership team, one of my key focuses will be ensuring Charlton Lodge offers a safe, stimulating and fun place to spend time, as well as being somewhere residents are proud to call their home.

“I’m keen to create an open, positive, and inclusive atmosphere advocating dignity, independence, choice and self-fulfilment for all residents – I strive to ensure my team always provides the professional and empathetic care everyone deserves. We can’t wait to open our doors this October and show the community all that Charlton Lodge has to offer.”

In addition, Mark Young will join Charlton Lodge as Customer Relations Manager from sister care home Millers Grange care home in Witney.

Angela Zuraw, Regional Director for Care UK, added: “Charlton Lodge marks an important investment for Care UK, and we’re thrilled to have Carla and Mark on board.

“Every detail of the home has been considered to provide the highest standards of care, but having the right team is key to the overall experience for the residents. Carla has plenty of experience, passion and empathy and I’m confident she’ll be a fantastic new addition to the Care UK family.

“I’m looking forward to working with Carla and Mark to appoint the rest of the team ahead of the home opening this autumn!”

Charlton Lodge will be a state-of the-art care home providing full-time residential and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. Designed to enable residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the home will have its very own cinema, hair salon and café, along plenty of space – both indoors and out – for relaxation and recreation.
