Care UK shortlisted for four Leaders in Care awards.

Company news

Care UK colleagues are celebrating after receiving four nominations at the 2024 Leaders in Care awards.

The Leaders in Care Awards celebrates the achievements of care providers in the UK and the suppliers that serve them.

The categories Care UK colleagues are shortlisted for are as follows:

  • Executive of the Year – Andrew Knight, CEO
  • Registered Manager of the Year - Toby Sturgess, Lonsdale Mews
  • Leader of the Future - Virgil Frincu, Llys Cyncoed
  • Care Home Design of the Year - Oat Hill Mews

Care UK colleagues know that supporting residents to live fulfilling lives is our priority – and this empathetic attitude is adopted from the very top.

CEO Andrew Knight’s passion for providing a safe, caring home for residents is a stand-out reason for his shortlisting. This dedication is one of the driving forces behind Care UK’s continually high care quality ratings. He continually empowers all colleagues to go above and beyond, to try new initiatives, and to ensure that homes remain a crucial part of their local community.

Toby Sturgess is an inspirational manager who has an open-door attitude, which encourages and inspires the team at Lonsdale Mews. They know he is always available to help with any issues, whether inside or outside of the home. His team always feel supported, knowing nothing is too big of an ask. He said: “Being there for your team when they need you is the most important thing. You must take the approach of becoming a counsellor and a friend before you’re a home manager.”

Virgil Frincu was promoted to the role of General Manager of Llys Cyncoed in 2021. From day one he brought his passion and enthusiasm for high-quality care that supports residents to live meaningful lives to drive high standards across all the departments of the home, from care and activities to dining and housekeeping. This is evidenced by the home’s achievement of ‘excellent across all domains’ by the Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) at an unannounced inspection in June 2024.

Oat Hill Mews is decorated with artwork and furnishings that link the home closely with its local community. are more than they appear. For example, Foxton Locks on the nearby canals has been part of the county’s history for more than 200 years. The home's bar is named ‘The Locks’ and draws on the theme with nautical and coastal artwork, while a lounge includes a bespoke TV unit with porthole windows. Another example is the RAF Market Harborough is a former Royal Air Force station in the town that inspired an aeronautical feel in one of the quiet lounges. The space features montages of artwork as well as herringbone wall panelling, replicating a design from the uniform’s badges.

The winners of the Leaders in Care Awards will be announced at a black-tie gala ceremony at the National Conference Centre in Birmingham on Tuesday 8th October.
