Care UK’s double success at the Care Home Catering Awards

Company news

Care UK colleagues are celebrating their commitment to delivering outstanding catering services after securing two wins at the 2024 Care Home Catering Awards ceremony.

The Care Home Catering Awards, run by Care Home Catering magazine recognise talent, creativity, and drive in care catering and celebrate some of the sector's brightest stars in the UK.

Adriano Goncalves De Carvalho, Head Chef at Newbury Grove won the Chef of the Year award. Something that won the judges over was Adriano’s dedication to supporting residents’ nutritional wellbeing through a system he created which tracks the progress, preferences, and dislikes of each resident. This includes tracing residents’ dietary requirements and whether or not they require puréed foods. This system is used both in the kitchen, and to assist with clinical needs. The kitchen team make every effort to creatively pipe the pureed foods, making them look and taste as close to the unmodified dish as possible.

The team at Britten Court won the Catering Team of the Year award by working to the ethos that all residents should enjoy the same level of choice, presentation and enjoyment of food, the team has finessed the art of piping pureed meals to look and taste just like the non-modified version.

Led by Head Chef Kamal Djedda and his team - Second Chef Andrew Golden and Kitchen Assistants Sharnna Mulhener, Amy Willliamson, and Louise Swarbrick - all of whom are passionate about this approach. As a result, the team has worked together to develop modified dishes that taste wonderful and provide the same choice as residents who are not restricted during mealtimes.

The 2024 winners were announced at the Care Home Catering Forum on 5th June 2024.
